Don't know about you, but I've noticed a lot of missing money lately. I was checking under the Oval Office sofa cushions and noticed there was no change (no pun intended). Who took it? I'm pretty sure it was Wall Street.

Well, I'm fighting for Main Street (until they become public companies who are traded on Wall Street. Then I'm fighting AGAINST them tooth and nail.) Because I know there's a huge difference between Wall Street and Main Street. One whole word difference.

We're going to get your money back, America. We're gonna pull it right out of Wall Street's twisted hands and start using it for good. Oh, you wanted the money back? Like a tax refund?

Look. A lot of us don't believe in things. If Van Jones, my (alleged) Green Jobs czar (not to be confused with Jan Jones my Tuesday Night Manicure/Pedicure Czar) has some doubts about 9/11, no biggie. Why you gotta bug out on me?

Everyone doubts. I have some doubts. I doubt that Van Jones is even one of my czars. I have a kajillion czars, how am I supposed to remember who Van Jones is, much less what he's signing on his off time? Maybe Biden picked him. All I can say is he's pretty damn attractive. I could stare into those eyes forever. So warm. So inviting. And yet, if I stare far enough into them, I see an unquenchable fire, burning.

So yes, everyone doubts. I have doubts about "Green Jobs." What is a Green Job? All I know is promised more of them. For the sake of numbers, I'm going to lump Landscaping into the Green Jobs category--BOOM! 100,000 Green Jobs created right there. Does that help the jobless figures any? I'm 34% sure it does.

My family loves Saul Alinsky's book Rules for Radicals. It's like our Green Eggs and Ham. But now I've found out that my opponents are appropriating Alinsky's teachings for their grass roots efforts aimed against me! If they keep it up, I will be chain-smoking before the week is out.

What's worse,I have Dick Armey suggesting, in the FT.com article, that I will use a fabricated Swine Flu epidemic to increase support for my Health Care plan.

That is completely offensive to me for many reasons. For one, I would never want to hurt anyone for my political advantage; two. it's a totally brilliant idea.

Phew, gotta get this blog back in gear. Let me be clear, government transparency is harder than it seems. I know that during the election I promised a new era of open government, clear goals, hope, change, planned dinner parties with your friends to drum up support for whatever policy I'm focusing on this week. . . um, and so on. But saying these things is one thing, and doing them is another. And, coming from a Senate background, I'm still riding the learning curve on figuring out how to do things.

(But the pirates thing rocked didn't it? That was awesome. Remember? I was astoundingly brilliant.)

Wait. . . is that my half-brother, 3rd from the left? Just kidding.

I wanted a health care bill through the House by August. Oh well. As Joe told me, "sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes you share a lean-to with him while getting drunk on Listerine. "

Well, I'd like to remind you, I need your help. I need your service. I need your voices. I don't want to present hope and change as merely a suggestion. I want to make it MANDATORY. For too long this country has been selfish with it's time, service, and resources. NO MORE. I need people to change, and I will not shirk from making people change. It's for the best. Trust me.

Obama's Budget Cuts; or, Forget What You Know About Math

Listen up, baby birds. I know we all hate math, but I'm going to break it down for you.

Our budget for the fiscal year beginning this October will be $3 trillion +. When it's all said and done, I'm estimating about $1.2 trillion of that budget will be red ink. BUT, I'm sweetening the deal. I'm cutting $17 billion from the budget.

Some people have criticized this, saying in a $3T budget, my cuts only amount to change. And my response to them is: My presidency is all about change.

As I said in a recent speech:

"In Washington, I guess that's considered trivial. Outside of Washington, that's [$17bil] still considered a lot of money. . . But these savings, large and small, add up."

If we're going to change anything, we have to change our perceptions. Forget what you know.

Let me break it down for you.
Let's say that every day, you buy a grande Starbucks coffee. That's $2 a day, which works out to $730 a year. 45.6 gallons of coffee!

My budget cuts amount to (drumroll) two trips to Starbucks. (actually 1.8 trips)

Imagine the sacrifice. Imagine, in a life rich in coffee, two days without it. Imagine the drowsiness, the dispair, the lack of hope involved in cutting $4 (actually $3.65) from your coffee budget; losing 32 oz of precious bliss per year.

Now you know how I feel.

Now you know how astoundingly hopeful and full of change these cuts were.

And if we keep pocketing $4/year, while dropping $726/year on coffee, we will be outta this mess in no time!

Prepare to be Enchanted

It humbles me to learn that change is slow in Washington. This blog is the next step in the transparent government of the future. But for now, it is merely a work in progress.

But take heart!

No longer will executive policy be lost in sea of words! Instead, it will appear on this blog. Um. Like a river of words. No. . . A river of HOPE.

My Obama Word Cloud

CBS took some of my recent speeches and ran them through the improbable Word Cloud-creating device, Wordle. Before I even read their blog post, I told John Holdren, my Science Advisor, to look into the possibility of utilizing Word Clouds to absorb carbon in the atmosphere or fight terrorism.

(Gotta stay one step ahead of the coming environmental crisis--and, as I always say, who needs weapons when you can hit your enemies with a vicious cloud of words?)
